MW4 Beta Patch Notes (August 29): Combat Outpost, Extra Mags, and .50 GS Apex Nerf

Infinity Ward’s August 29 Open Beta update adds Ground War: Combat Outpost on Wolves Stadium and Imjin Farmlands, extra magazines for low-reserve guns, and a heavy nerf to the .50 GS GS Magna Apex.

Infinity Ward has published the August 29 Modern Warfare 4 Beta patch notes — Open Beta day two. Yesterday’s update retuned every weapon. Today is a content day plus a short follow-up: Ground War: Combat Outpost is live, guns with fewer than 60 rounds in reserve get an extra magazine, and the .50 GS GS Magna Apex conversion is cut hard.

Friday’s full TTK, movement, and aim-assist pass is still August 28. Thursday’s Warzone / Zodiac preview is August 27.

Infinity Ward says more work is coming. They are still patching every full day of Open Beta.

What’s new today

Ground War: Combat Outpost is in the playlist. The two new maps are Wolves Stadium and Imjin Farmlands (listed as Imjin Farmland on MW4.GG). Lithium, Hijack, and Zodiac Resurgence stay up.

Multiplayer weapons

Infinity Ward is watching yesterday’s class-wide TTK pass and keeping today’s gun list short. The ammo rule is the one that hits most loadouts: weapons with fewer than 60 rounds of ammunition in reserve receive an extra magazine, or its equivalent, so you stay in the fight longer after the slower TTK.

.50 GS — GS Magna Apex

The Apex conversion is the Multiplayer weapon change today. Close-range max drops from 46 to 34. A new mid band is added. Minimum damage falls from 37 to 27, and that floor now starts after 44.4m instead of 20.3m.

RangeBeforeAfter
Max46, 0–20.3m34, 0–20.3m
Medium 1NEW: 30, 20.3–44.4m
Minimum37 after 20.3m27 after 44.4m

If you were running Magna as a pocket DMR, that is over. The base .50 GS still uses Friday’s range and multiplier pass.

PC, Kill Confirmed, and bug fixes

  • PC — overall performance improvements. Some in-game settings may reset to default on first boot after this patch.
  • Kill Confirmed — larger tag pickup radius, and tags can be picked up immediately when they drop. (Also listed under recently fixed.)
  • FOV — Independent vs Affected FOV choice restored.
  • Pros and Cons now show on locked attachments.
  • Front-end menu navigation fixes.
  • After Action Report — weapon level skips no longer look like they consumed XP. No XP was used on those levels.
  • Snapshot Grenade — enemy Operators could display incorrectly after being hit; visual fix.
  • Crossfire audio could get stuck playing; fixed.
  • Teammate dots persisting on the mini-map; fixed.
  • Mobility Course issues; fixed.
  • Lobby Player List navigation could skip Map Voting and jump to Quick Nav; fixed.
  • Care Packages could fail to appear when called in; fixed.
  • Matchmaking no longer shows a map and mode name when the playlist has no vote.

Known issues (Multiplayer)

  • Switch 2 Operator Select can render characters before a usable level of detail has streamed in.
  • Player names may appear blank on the in-match scoreboard.
  • Late joiners can sometimes move during Infil.
  • The correct mode name may not show as the match starts.
  • Operators may appear missing in the lobby.
  • Loadout edits made right before loading in sometimes do not save.
  • Combat Outpost spawn-location UI can show details that do not match the highlighted spawn.

Infinity Ward is tracking live issues throughout Open Beta.

Warzone

Saturday’s Warzone notes are a systems and audio pass on Zodiac, plus two pistol updates. Stacking UAVs no longer combines into an Advanced UAV. Footstep distances are pulled back toward the live Warzone mix, including the previous maximum audible distance.

Weapons

The official notes put the .50 GS attachment swap under Assault Rifles. It is still a pistol — treat it as a default-loadout / recommended-attachment change on Zodiac:

Warzone .50 GS attachment swaps
SlotBeforeAfter
Attachment 1Corvus LVL-40XRK Mil-Tac Suppressor

Krait P68 gets the same close-range damage bump Multiplayer already received on Friday, with a shorter max band and flattened chest/neck multipliers.

Warzone Krait P68 damage range changes
RangeBeforeAfter
Max42, 0–12m46, 0–10.2m
Medium 137, 12.1–21.8m39, 10.3–20.5m
Medium 233, 21.9–31.2m33, 20.6–38.1m
Minimum29 after 31.3m29 after 38.1m
  • Head multiplier 1.4 → 1.3
  • Neck 1.15 → 1.0
  • Upper torso 1.15 → 1.0

Gameplay, camera, and HUD

  • Finishing Moves — blood effects added to the new mid-air finisher.
  • 1st Person Camera Movement — Settings → Camera, including Minimal (25%). This setting can reset when you switch between Warzone and Multiplayer. Recheck it after swapping modes.
  • HUD Widget Shake — toggle On/Off under Interface Settings for a static HUD. Infinity Ward says camera and HUD motion still need more work for clarity vs immersion.

Warzone bug fixes

  • Loot Box audio punching through environmental occlusion too hard; some loot audio missing occlusion entirely.
  • Throwing an Impact Warhead onto a vehicle produced no audio.
  • Field Medic’s extra downed health was not shown on the HUD while downed.
  • Players could get stuck in Spectator Mode after being eliminated.
  • Dropping a Heartbeat Sensor could immediately drain its battery.
  • Bombing Run could be pinged when no Killstreak was actually in the area.
  • Loot Cards could appear empty.
  • Resurgence disconnect fix.
  • Full Activision IDs were showing in the Squad Widget during a match.
