Learning the map is a core skill in any Call of Duty game, but what happens when pieces of the map change every round? That’s the question that the new evolving map, Kill Block, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 seeks to answer. Here’s everything you need to know about Kill Block.
How Kill Block Works in Modern Warfare 4
Every Kill Block map is made up of three pieces known as slabs: two on both ends and one in the middle. These slabs are designed around being modular, and have been created specifically for Kill Block, but they also take inspiration from existing Call of Duty maps as well. For example, the Modern Warfare 2 map, Highrise, exists as a slab, and if it gets slotted in the middle, it’ll create a central elevated helipad that the two teams will almost certainly fight for control over.
The central slab is definitely the most important one to take note of, as it’s generally where teams will meet up and engage in firefights, but you’d do well to learn about the particulars of the end slabs as well. Knowing the fastest ways to reach the middle slab will certainly be helpful in securing a prime position, as will knowing what the best spots are to get a good vantage point, or where people are most likely to run recklessly around a corner.
Both teams will have a turn at each end slab before the round ends, and before a new round begins, a new map is generated from three new slabs. The first first team to win six rounds wins the match.
After playing a bunch of rounds during the early access beta of Modern Warfare 4, our overall impression is that it’s pretty fun. The random nature of the map design does mean that the balance between the two sides gets thrown out the window, since certain end slabs offer greater protection and vantage points than others, but since both teams have a go on each side before the map shifts again, it still ends up being fair.
During the MW4 beta, Kill Block is only available in 10v10 and 3v3 Gunfight, but is planned for being applied to other core multiplayer modes as well.
